More families are beginning to feel a financial crunch as the recession continues. This means that they are going out less and less, and staying in instead. While this can be fine most nights, it is important for both your children and yourself that you get out every once and awhile. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to do it for less, or even free.

Miss going out to eat? Start checking online forums dedicated to freebies. They will often have lists of restaurants in your area that do weekly deals and discounts. For example. JB’s Family Restaurant does a kids eat free on Wednesday deal for anyone 12 and under.

Just want to get outside and have some fun? Check your local paper or independent city rag to find out about local events, many of which cost next to nothing, or are free to attend. Festivals, carnivals, park circuses, and child-oriented charity events are especially common in the summer.

Make sure to pay attention to your surroundings when you are out. It is amazing what opportunities that are missed as we go about our day, and unlikely things can be found in common places. Many grocery stores, for instance, will give free tickets for zoo’s and other places to take your kids.
